Many Tech leaders get this wrong. Tech Projects are not goals themselves. Tech Projects are how goals are achieved.
It starts with a Vision, a Why.
Every Friday I book coffee 🍵 time with my team and we talk about innovation and solving problems. Earlier this week, I shared the success of mega project, Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. Today I’ll share why it was successful.
Unifying Vision
The project worksite for Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 (T5) was covered in posters comparing T5 to other great projects including the Eiffel Tower, Thames Barrier, Empire State building with the statement “We’re making history too!”
Everyone felt equally part of what they were building and making history.
To successfully deliver your Tech Projects, you need give clarity on your vision.
A single, unifying vision provides an identity, a purpose, and direction for your team. Your Team embraces the shared vision and they believe their contribution will make a difference.
The vision is turned into clear directives that the team can deliver.
Here’s what most leaders get wrong:
To set up your team for success, you need to give them all the information they need to do the job right without telling them how to do it.
Each person on your Tech Project is given creative ownership of even the smallest task.
That’s what makes Tech Projects successful. When your team feels empowered and united in accomplishing something worthwhile.
