How To Prep For A Panel Discussion

Next week, I’m looking forward to guest speaking on the panel for The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria International Accountants’ Conference.

Just like any public speaking, I get nervous.

So to calm my nerves I go back to what my speaking coach taught me – prepare and rehearse.

Here’s my 7-point prep list for panel discussions and audience questions:
1) Open – Insights, facts, perspective on the topic.
2) Strategic view – Broad or high altitude point. e.g. How AI impacts business.
3) Expand – What are the benefits or consequences of AI, and why should the audience care about AI?
4) Specific point – Examples, case studies, and projects on how AI has saved time or increased revenue.
5) Application – Make sure the audience walks away with value and the ability to apply the information. e.g. Where should you start with AI?
6) Summary – Impactful statement. The one point you want the audience to take away from this session.
7) Close – How to contact me, and thank the other panelists and the audience.
