Don’t Waste Time In Software Demos

We were over an hour into the ERP demo and the vendor was still working through menus and showing us how to change font colors. None of this was helping fix our issue with asset management hierarchies.

I learned a valuable lesson that day – focus your software demos.
Don’t waste your time or the vendor’s time.

Here’s how we prepare and structure the demo:

1) Technical questions
Provide the vendor with 15 to 20 questions that show how the software will meet you needs. E.g. “How does asset tagging ensure accurate reporting of project costs?”

2) Customer journeys
Journey Maps of your common processes provide a visual representation of your interactions with the software. A great way to evaluate how the new software will help streamline your process and deliver your product.

3) Pain points
Building on the Journey Maps, list all the pain points and frustrations you have with the current process and software. Use this to see how the new software will help.

Efficient software demos require preparation but the result saves time for you and the vendor.
