Delegate Don’t Relegate

Following-on from my post yesterday, you have to delegate in the right way and most people don’t get this right.

Including me.

Early in my career, I fired out actions to my team like a to-do list.

This didn’t work.

Deadlines were missed, the quality was inconsistent.
Delegating in the right way empowers your team, gets work done quicker and brings new ideas.

Here’s how I do it:
1) Clarify the task, make sure it contributes to your goals.
2) Specify the result. What does it look like when you’re done.
3) Pick the person with the right skills and capabilities.

Important: Don’t delegate everything. Pick up tasks that help you learn and
also contribute to your team’s work.
