Confession time: I’m a total sci-fi geek! Give me anything with AI, robots, or space, and I’m in.
Last night, I watched ‘The Creator,’ a movie where a soldier named Joshua is on a mission to find a secret weapon—an AI robot in the form of a young child—to end a war between humans and robots.
I was lost in the beautifully realized AI future-world and I couldn’t help see some powerful project leadership lessons. Mild spoilers ahead!
Connecting Beyond Transactions:
In the midst of a hectic project, it’s easy to slip into a ‘transactional’ mode—just doing, just asking. Let’s not forget, our teams are people with lives outside the project. Just like Joshua’s wife saw the AI robots as family, take a moment to connect with your team. Ask how they’re doing. Reaching out creates a collaborative and supportive environment.
Finding Solutions in Every Situation:
We’ve all been there—facing seemingly insurmountable challenges on projects. The team is tired, stressed, and unsure how to fix things. From movie, Joshua reassures a dying soldier that there’s still life left and encourages him to keep moving. Similarly, in our projects, there’s always a way forward. When things get tough, ask yourself, ‘What can we do next? Who can we turn to for help?’ Being a problem solved makes a difference.
Embracing Change:
Change is easier said than done, especially when we’re up to our necks in a project. But just like Joshua’s mindset evolved from hating AI Robots to trusting them, we must remind ourselves to change. Take a moment to step back and see different possibilities. What options do we have? How can a shift in mindset open up new avenues for success?
Sometimes the best leadership lessons are found in the unlikeliest of places—like a sci-fi movie about AI and robots! 🌌✨
