Business is unique. You may provide the same service or product but every organization/department/team has their acronyms, jargon, terminology, data, and reports.
For example, a “Warehouse” for a tech firm is very different from a “Warehouse” at a manufacturing company.
This is where AI struggles. Implementing AI for your business gives you ok answers, sometimes they’re wrong or just weird.
Why is AI not living up to the hype?
Many businesses are overestimating what AI can do and underestimating the need for a strategy and training.
Like arriving in a foreign city when you don’t speak the local language, you can talk but you can’t communicate.
What many AI projects get wrong is training AI on your data.
For example,
Asking AI to give me “Revenue of new product sales for last fiscal year” will likely give the wrong answer. The AI won’t know the dates of your fiscal year, or what are ‘new products’ are.
Here’s how to get AI working for your business:
1) Train AI on your business. It can take weeks or months to train AI. Run a pilot with a small group of users. Ask lots of questions about your data. Use different terminology and jargon. Give the AI a thumbs up when you get good results.
2) Tell users it’s a pilot and results may not be great at first. Ask for their help to train the AI model by asking it lots of questions and giving feedback.
3) Fix your data. Make sure data values are consistent (e.g. PLAN, PLN, PL) and the data quality is good.
4) Track and report. Measure the likes and types of questions, and create a dashboard on usage and results. Show progress.
5) Expand the pilot. As your AI gets better, expand the pilot to more users, and monitor results.
