3 Burning Questions On AI From Business Leaders

I was a Thought Leader on Lori Michele Leavitt‘s 10x! Business & Leadership Peer Advisory Group and we had a great discussion on generative #AI from the leadership perspective.

Here are 3 big questions:

1) How do we control #AI and make sure our client data is safe?

As with any free tools on the internet, provide guidelines for your staff not to share any confidential, company or personal data.
Generative #AI lacks a credible truth function, meaning that it doesn’t know when information is factually incorrect. Verify all AI responses with your own research and review it with an expert or trusted colleague. Be aware of potential copyright issues if you reshare AI answers.
Only use data you fully understand. Track all AI experiments across your business and avoid “shadow experiments” that risk exposing sensitive information.

2) If Executives have banned AI, how do we get buy-in to use it?

Getting buy-in to new ideas can be tough, I get it. Here’s what I’ve done.

Start with your Reason to use AI or the problem to be solved.
What are you company goals? Increase revenue? Grow into new markets? Have all deliveries on time?

Get a small team together and brainstorm ways to solve the problem. With new ideas, then research technology solutions including AI.

Talk to industry peers, friends, colleagues. How are they using AI?
Start a small experiment or pilot to prove out the results.
Share the work and results with Executives and frame it in their language and what they care about most.

3) Can you use AI to shift, even Pivot, your business for ongoing success?

Generative AI creates predictions based on data patterns. It’s not good at strategic direction and vision (that’s for General AI, coming soon…). However, generative AI is good for informing options based a specific prompt. E.g. We are in the real estate industry in Seattle, we have a staff of 700 people, and focus on residential acreages. We want to grow are business. What are the business trends and opportunities we should look into?

Remember, AI is not just about Artificial Intelligence, AI is about Accelerating Impact of your business.
